About the Artist
Dale Redpath, a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was encouraged early on by her teachers and parents to pursue
her interest in art. She often visited and took classes at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the
museum's
paintings had a great influence on her growing dream of becoming a painter. In 1977, Dale entered the
“Atelier
Lack Studio Program of Fine Art” as a full time student. There, Dale found in the program's classic
instruction
the experience she needed to start creating her own studio work.
Teaching evening classes at Atelier Lack became an excellent preparation for an invitation to instruct full
time students with Richard Lack. On his retirement in 1992, Dale and Cyd Wicker, both instructors, continued on
as co-directors of the program now named
The Atelier Studio Program of Fine
Art and moved to its current
location in Northeast Minneapolis in 1994.
As a teacher, Dale worked to guide a student through the development of artistic skills that lead their eye
from the abstraction of big shapes and values to the subtlety of the nuances. “If a student is open to
instruction, they can develop a base that can carry them many directions.”
Dale has traveled to museums and collections in North America and Europe, enhancing her training in the French
academic tradition with a search into the work of Titian, Velazquez, Van Dyke, Chardin, Degas, Fantin Latour,
Raphael and so many others. By looking into the process of creation, movement and emotion Dale infuses more of
these elements into her own work.
